Hosted in the EU

DMU Mail runs on servers in Nuremberg, Germany, operated for us by Hetzner. Your mail is stored in the EU, and the files you attach are kept in EU object storage.

What it does

Where your mail lives

  • Servers in Nuremberg

The app, the database and the sign-in service run on a Hetzner server in Germany.

  • Files in EU storage

Attachments, exports and pictures are kept in object storage in Germany, apart from the database.

  • Our own sign-in

Passwords and passkeys are handled by DMU Mail’s own sign-in service, on our servers.

  • Collected only to run it

We collect what we need to run DMU Mail and nothing to advertise with. We never sell personal data.

How it works

Nothing to choose

  1. 1

Your organisation is created on our servers in Germany from the first day. There is no region to pick and nothing to switch on.

  2. 2

    Connect your mail

DMU Mail keeps its own encrypted copy of what you connect. Your provider keeps the original, and deleting in DMU Mail never deletes it there.

  3. 3

    Take it with you

Export your data whenever you like. Deleting your organisation takes effect after seven days, and you can cancel it until then.

Good to know

The details

Where
Nuremberg, Germany: the servers, the database, the sign-in service and the backups. Files are in Germany too.
Data centres
Hetzner’s, which our Data processing agreement describes as ISO 27001 certified.
Other companies
The Data processing agreement lists every company that handles data for us, where it is and what safeguards apply. A few, such as DNS, are outside the EU.
Backups
Nightly database backups are kept for 14 days and daily server backups for 7, so deleted mail is gone from them within 14 days.
