Group alerts
Switch it on for a mailbox, and automated alerts with the same subject from the same sender join one conversation, instead of every alert starting its own.

What it does
One conversation, not a pile
Alerts, together
Automated mail with the same subject from the same sender joins one conversation.
A switch for each mailbox
Turn it on where the alerts arrive, and leave every other mailbox as it is.
From now on
It applies to mail that arrives after you switch it on. Earlier conversations stay as they are.
No surprise reopening
An alert never reopens a conversation you have closed, grouped or not.
How it works
One switch
- 1
Open the mailbox
Go to Settings › Mailboxes and choose the mailbox that receives the alerts.
- 2
Turn it on
On the General tab, under Conversations, switch on Group alerts with the same subject. It saves at once, with Undo.
- 3
Let them arrive
New alerts with the same subject from the same sender join the conversation that is already there.
Good to know
The details
- Who can use it
- Administrators for a shared mailbox, and the owner for a private one. Everyone else sees the setting, read only.
- Where
- Settings › Mailboxes, the General tab, under Conversations.
- By default
- It is off, so each alert starts its own conversation. A real reply still joins the conversation it answers.
- What counts as an alert
- Mail sent by a machine: marked as automatic in its headers, or from an address such as noreply@ or alerts@.
- How far back
- An alert joins a conversation whose latest message is no more than 14 days old.
