Custom fields

Add your own fields to every contact, such as an account number or a VAT number, and let your saved replies fill them in as you write, so nobody retypes them.

What it does

Fields that fit your work

  • Your own fields

Add text, number, date, email, phone, person or choice fields, up to 50 in all.

  • Filled into replies

A saved reply with {{contact.customer_number}} fills in from the first person in To who is a contact.

  • Filled values show

Values filled from a contact are underlined until you edit them, and an empty detail is pointed out before you send.

  • On the contact card

Choose two fields for the card that opens from a name in a conversation.

How it works

Add, fill, use

  1. 1

    Add a field

An administrator opens Settings › Contacts › Fields and chooses Add a field: a name, a type and the key used in templates.

  2. 2

    Fill it in

Add values on a contact’s page, import them from a file, or send them through the API.

  3. 3

    Use it

Put {{contact.customer_number}}, or the key you chose, in a saved reply. It fills in when you insert the reply.

Good to know

The details

Who can use it
Administrators add and remove fields. Everyone who can edit a contact can fill them in.
Where
Settings › Contacts › Fields. Administrators also choose the two fields on the contact card there.
Removing a field
It is emptied on every contact, and saved replies that use it stop filling it in. DMU Mail counts the contacts first.
No value yet
The placeholder stays in the text, in a warning colour, and DMU Mail points it out before you send.
Personal contacts
A value on a personal contact fills in only your own replies.
