Test before it runs

See what a rule would have done before it does anything. DMU Mail tries it on the last 200 conversations of a mailbox you choose, changes nothing, and won’t switch a rule on untested.

An automation: if the subject has bill, invoice or receipt and the sender is outside the organisation, label it Invoices and assign the Accounts team in turns.

What it does

Try it first

  • Your own mail

Pick a mailbox and the rule is tried on its last 200 conversations.

  • Nothing is changed

No label, assignee or reply is touched, so a wrong guess costs nothing.

  • See why it matched

Each match shows the condition, and the words, that made it match.

  • Replies checked too

For an automatic reply, you see who would get it and why others would not.

How it works

Build, test, switch on

  1. 1

    Build the rule

Set its When, If and Then in Settings › Automations. It does not need to be saved before you test it.

  2. 2

    Run the test

Choose Test on recent mail, pick a mailbox and run it. The result lists the conversations that would have matched.

  3. 3

    Switch it on

A rule can’t be switched on untested. DMU Mail runs the test if you haven’t, shows what it found, and offers to run it now on the open matches.

Good to know

The details

Who can use it
Whoever can make the automation: administrators for the organisation’s, and members for their own when allowed.
Where
In the automation, under Test on recent mail, in Settings › Automations.
How much
The last 200 conversations of one mailbox at a time. It runs in the background and changes nothing in them.
After a change
A rule that is on goes off if you change it without testing, until it has been tested again.
Catching up
Switching a rule on can also run it on open conversations that match. Closed ones are left alone, and no automatic reply goes to these.
