October was the month DMU Mail grew from a shared inbox into a place where a team can hand work over, automate the routine and ask for help. This post groups the month's releases by what they mean for your team. The changelog has every change, in full, and this post never replaces it.

In short

  • Mail can now sort and answer itself, through automations that you test before they run.

  • The Assistant and Claude can help with your mail. Both are off until an administrator allows them, and both draft and never send.

  • Sharing the work got simpler: Assign to me, replies that bring conversations back, and a team chat that carries replies.

Mail that handles the routine

Automations arrived on 25 October as rules in Settings › Automations. A rule says when it starts, what it checks and what it does, and you can try it on recent mail before you switch it on. Business hours and holidays let a rule tell in hours from out of hours. On 27 October, Automations do more: a rule can now do anything you can do to a conversation, including forwarding it to an address outside your organisation.

For a team, this means the routine no longer depends on whoever is looking at the inbox. The full story is in Automations are here.

Releases: 2026-10-25, 2026-10-27.

Help from the Assistant and from Claude

On 28 October, the Assistant arrived. You connect your own account at an AI provider, and ask it to write, organise and find your mail. It shows a preview before anything changes, and it acts only when you ask or when a routine of yours runs. An administrator allows it first, and then each person turns it on. Meet the Assistant explains it.

Two days later, DMU Mail started working with Claude. If you use Claude, you can connect it to DMU Mail, and it can search and read your conversations and write drafts for you. It never sends, forwards or deletes. See DMU Mail works with Claude.

For a team, the point is control. An administrator decides whether either one exists in your organisation at all, and everything they change shows in Activity.

Releases: 2026-10-28, 2026-10-30.

Sharing the work

Several smaller releases made it clearer who has what.

  • Assign to me. On 18 October, the assign button took a conversation for you in one click. A team in the sidebar began to show how many open conversations it has.

  • Replies bring conversations back. On 17 October, a reply to a closed conversation opened it again, so a customer's answer is not lost under Closed.

  • The Open view. On 15 October, Open began to show every conversation not closed yet.

  • Team chat. On 28 October, you could reply to, edit and delete team chat messages, and send GIFs. On 30 October, a new team chat message made the conversation unread again for its assignees, anyone who had written in its team chat and anyone mentioned.

  • Merging and pinning. On 25 October, you could drag one conversation onto another to merge them, with Undo, and pin up to 10 conversations to the sidebar.

  • Permissions. Also on 25 October, Settings › Permissions let administrators choose who can do each thing, such as assigning others or moving shared mail to Trash.

Contacts and files

25 October added shared and personal contacts, and a details panel beside each conversation that shows the person you are writing with, your other conversations with them and the files you have exchanged. On the same day, a file that would take a message past 25 MB, up to 2 GB, began to go as a download link instead. Word files opened in the preview from 27 October.

Safer by default

  • 1 October: mail and files are encrypted on our servers, under keys unique to each mailbox. Exports are encrypted too.

  • 26 October: every file that arrives, every file you attach and every large file you share as a link is checked for viruses first. A file with a virus is blocked.

  • 25 October: tracking pixels are removed from every message, and you can block a sender or everyone at their domain.

DMU Mail for Windows

16 October brought DMU Mail for Windows: its own window, an unread count on the taskbar and Windows notifications. It gained sign-in through your browser, a picture of the window in Send feedback and notifications from every organisation before the month was out. DMU Mail for Windows goes through them.

Your own sidebar

11 October let you reorder, hide and group the sidebar to suit the way you work, the same on every device.

Where to look next

Every release is in the changelog, newest first. If you want to try something from this post, the feature pages, such as Automations and the Assistant, say who can use each one and where to find it in Settings.
